CELEBRITY LINE-UP EXPECTED AT BELGIUM’S MEMORIAL VAN DAMME
For Brussels Airlines, the 14th September will see the return of an annual favourite in the sporting calendar – the Memorial Van Damme meeting in the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels. This annual athletics meeting is part of the Golden League of six meetings worldwide (the others are Oslo, Paris, Rome, Zurich and Berlin) in which the cumulative winners get to share the prize money of a very handsome $1million.
This year is the 31st edition of the prestigious event, and with an expected public turnout of over 50,000 spectators – the stadium is usually packed – the line-up of events, both athletic and entertaining will certainly be up to the usual excellent standard. Belgium’s favourite female track and field athlete Kim Gevaerts will be present, straight back from the World’s Athletic Championships in Osaka, and Olympic Gold and six-times 1500m winner Hicham El Gerrouj will be present as the IAAF ambassador to Brussels. If he wins, El Guerrouj will have a double celebration as on the day of the meeting, as on 14 September, he will also celebrate his 33rd birthday. And to round off the evening, who better than the legendary Supremes singing live, reminding us all what we liked best about Motown.

UNE FOULE DE CÉLÉBRITÉS ATTENDUES EN BELGIQUE, À L’OCCASION DU MÉMORIAL VAN DAMME
Pour Brussels Airlines, le 14 septembre prochain coïncide avec le retour d’un événement annuel en tête du calendrier sportif : le Mémorial Van Damme, qui se tient au stade Roi Baudouin à Bruxelles. Cette rencontre annuelle de l’athlétisme s’inscrit au sein de la Golden League qui comprend 6 meetings dans le monde (les autres sont Oslo, Paris, Rome, Zurich et Berlin). Les athlètes qui s’imposent dans leur discipline lors des 6 rencontres se partageront le ‘jackpot’ d’une valeur d’un million de dollars.
Cette année marque la 31e édition de cet événement prestigieux, qui, fort des exploits des athlètes de haut niveau dans une ambiance incroyable, table sur plus de 50 000 spectateurs (le stade est bien souvent comble). Kim Gevaerts, l’athlète nationale sprinteuse, qui s’est hissée parmi les grands noms de l’athlétisme féminin, sera présente, de retour du Mondial à Osaka. Sera présent aussi à titre d’ambassadeur de l’IAAF à Bruxelles, Hicham El Gerrouj, médaillé d’or aux Jeux Olympiques et vainqueur à 6 reprises du 1500m. S’il gagne, El Guerrouj devra célébrer doublement sa victoire, car le 14 septembre, jour du meeting est aussi le jour de son 33e anniversaire. STERATLETEN AAN DE START VAN DE BELGISCHE MEMORIAL VAN DAMME
Op 14 september vindt voor Brussels Airlines opnieuw een van de belangrijkste sportevenementen plaats: de Memorial Van Damme in het Brusselse Koning Boudewijnstadion. Deze jaarlijkse atletiekmeeting maakt deel uit van de 6 Golden League-wedstrijden (de andere zijn Oslo, Parijs, Rome, Zurich en Berlijn). Atleten die hun discipline 6 maal winnen, delen de befaamde ‘jackpot’ van één miljoen dollar.
Dit jaar vindt de 31ste editie van dit prestigieuze evenement plaats. Men verwacht 50.000 bezoekers (het stadion zit gewoonlijk afgeladen vol) die zeker mogen zijn van sportief en ander spektakel. De Belgische favoriete sprintster Kim Gevaert is uiteraard van de partij, net terug van het WK in Osaka. Ook Olympisch kampioen en zesvoudig winnaar van de 1500 meter Hicham El Guerrouj zal in Brussel aanwezig zijn, als ambassadeur van de Internationale Atletiekfederatie (IAAF). Die dag is voor hem sowieso een feest, want hij viert dan zijn 33e verjaardag. De avond wordt naar goede gewoonte afgesloten met muzikale topprestaties, ditmaal geleverd door de legendarische Mowtown-groep The Supremes, die er live helemaal voor gaan.
