GETTING AROUND
Banjul has a simple taxi payment system for tourists, which works out more expensive than the everyday yellow taxis but saves a lot of hassle. Green tourist taxis will take you from the airport to the main hotel/beach centre 15km away. Prices are printed on a board outside the airport, but check with the driver before you set off.

EAT OUT
The Sand Plover bar and restaurant (off Old Cape Road, Cape Point) is ideally positioned right on the beach. Hannah, the indomitable owner of this informal bar, serves cold beer, fresh juices and good food. If your taste buds are craving something a little different, then The Clay Oven (off Atlantic Road, Fajara) is the place to head for top-end Indian food. It’s a stylish restaurant renowned for its friendly service.

DRINK UP
Unwind from the heat of the day at Leybato (off Atlantic Road, Fajara), a relaxing guesthouse with a friendly bar. Set right on the beach, it’s the perfect spot to stretch out in one of the hammocks and watch the waves roll in from the Atlantic. At the Aquarius nightclub (near the Hotel Senegambia, Kololo) you need to dress to impress – think glitzy African nightlife, international beats and a mixed crowd of young partygoers.

BEST WATERSIDE SPOT
For jet-skiing, parascending and boat rides, contact the Gambia Watersports Centre at Denton Beach Resort (Denton Bridge). Windsurfing and canoeing are available at the Sunbeach Hotel’s watersports centre (Kofi Annan Street, Bakau).

SE DÉPLACER
Banjul propose un système de payement unique des taxis destinés aux touristes, qui s’avère plus onéreux que le classique taxi jaune mais qui en revanche épargne bien des soucis.
Les ‘taxis de touristes’ verts vous emmèneront de l’aéroport jusqu’au principal hôtel de la plage, à 15km du centre. Les prix sont imprimés sur un tableau à l’extérieur de l’aéroport, mais contrôlez quand même avec le chauffeur avant de démarrer.

OÙ MANGER?
Bar et restaurant de la plage Sand Plover (près de la Route de Old Cape, Cape Point). Idéalement situé sur la plage, ce petit bar informel sert de la bière fraîche et de la bonne cuisine du jour. Le Clay Oven (près de la Route Atlantic, Fajara) c’est l’endroit où vous attabler pour de la très bonne cuisine indienne, dans un restaurant distingué avec un service accueillant.

BOIRE UN VERRE
Prenez un peu d’air frais après la chaleur de la journée dans Leybato (près de la Route Atlantic, Fajara), qui invite à la détente, avec un bar chaleureux planté en plein milieu de la plage. Aquarius (près de l’hôtel Senegambia, Kololo). Parez-vous de vos plus beaux atours pour faire de l’effet et étinceler au milieu de la vie nocturne africaine. Le cœur de ce club animé bat aux rythmes internationaux et l’on y trouve une foule mélangée de jeunes noctambules.

LES PLUS BEAUX ENDROITS DU RIVAGE
Pour le jet ski, le parachutisme ou la navigation, contactez le Centre des Sports Nautiques de Gambie à la station balnéaire de Denton, (Denton Bridge). Le windsurfing et le canoë peuvent se pratiquer au centre sportif nautique de l’hôtel Sunbeach (Rue Kofi Annan, Bakau).

HOE GERAAK JE ER?
Banjul hanteert voor toeristen een eenvoudig betalingssysteem voor taxi’s dat duurder uitkomt dan de gewone gele taxi’s, maar minder gedoe garandeert. Groene “toeristentaxi’s” brengen je van de luchthaven naar het grootste hotel/ strandcentrum 15km verderop. De prijzen staan op een bord buiten de luchthaven, maar controleer toch even bij de chauffeur voor je vertrekt.

Leybato (vlakbij Atlantic Road, Fajara). In dit ontspannende pension met een vriendelijke bar, pal op het strand, kun je heerlijk bekomen van de hitte. Aquarius (bij Senegambia Hotel, Kololo). Dos je piekpijn uit en duik hier met een gemengd publiek van jonge fuifbeesten op internationale beats het opzichtige Afrikaanse nachtleven in.

HET BESTE AAN HET WATER
Voor jetski’s, parasailing en boottochten moet je in het Gambia Watersports Centre in Denton Beach Resort (Denton Bridge) zijn. Windsurfen en kanovaren is mogelijk in het watersportcentrum van Sunbeach Hotel (Kofi Annan Street, Bakau).
