Abidjan’s skyline is complemented
by lush green environs
GETTING AROUND Abidjan Airport isn’t far from the city centre and metered taxis wait outside the gate. A ride to Plateau, where most business hotels are located, costs between CFA 3,000 (€4,60) and CFA 6,000 (€9,10). You can negotiate a fixed rate or have the driver use his meter. Rates double after midnight.
EAT OUT There are thousands of outdoor local restaurants called maquis, serving tasty barbecued chicken and fish. One of the newest upmarket places is Adoumin (Blockosso, Cocody, tel. 2248 9114), which boasts a fantastic location on the lagoon below Hotel Ivoire. As well as the restaurant, there’s also a nightclub and a gym. For sophisticated style and superb sushi, it’s hard to beat Kaiten (Rue Docteur Blanchard, Zone 4, tel. 2125 4461).
NIGHTLIFE If you fancy a relaxing evening, the Rezurrection (Boulevard Latrille, Cocody) is a cool place to take a drink, shoot some pool and often enjoy live music. If you still have the energy after midnight, that’s when things get going at Le Ritz nightclub (Boulevard Delafosse, Treichville), where an upmarket Ivorian crowd dances to international and local hits.
GREEN TIPS The former colonial capital Bingerville is just a 20-minute drive from the centre of town and home to the vast botanical gardens. Abidjan itself has a tropical forest right in the centre of the city – the Parc National du Banco (Yopougon). Here you will find nature trails, a visitor centre and a guided arboretum.
SE DÉPLACER L’aéroport d’Abidjan n’est pas très éloigné du centre ville et des taxis avec compteurs attendent à l’extérieur. Une course jusqu’au Plateau, où sont localisés la plupart des hôtels d’affaires, coûte entre CFA 3 000 (4,60 €) et CFA 6 000 (9,10 €). Vous pouvez négocier un tarif fixe ou demander au chauffeur d’utiliser le compteur.

Adoumin (Blockosso, Cocody, tél. 2248 9114) est l’un des derniers endroits sélects, situé dans un cadre fantastique sur la lagune, en dessous de l’hôtel Ivoire. Outre le restaurant, l’ensemble comprend également un nightclub et un club de gym. Question sophistication et sushi raffinés, rien ne surpasse le Kaiten (Rue Docteur Blanchard, Zone 4, tél. 2125 4461).
VIE NOCTURNE Si vous appréciez une soirée décontractée, Rezurrection (Boulevard Latrille, Cocody) est un lieu indiqué pour prendre un verre, jouer une partie de billard et bien souvent, écouter un concert. Si vous êtes toujours d’attaque après minuit, c’est le moment où la soirée commence au nightclub Le Ritz (Boulevard Delafosse, Treichville). C’est là que les noctambules ivoiriens dansent sur les hits locaux et internationaux.
ÉCO-GUIDE Bingerville, l’ancienne capitale de l’époque coloniale, se trouve à seulement 20 minutes de route du centre-ville et elle héberge d’immenses jardins botaniques. À Abidjan même, une forêt tropicale s’étend dans la ville : le Parc National du Banco (Yopougon). Vous y trouverez des pistes balisées, un centre d’accueil pour les visiteurs et un tour guidé de l’arboretum.
VERVOER De luchthaven van Abidjan ligt dicht bij het stadscentrum. Buiten de poorten wachten taxi’s met een meter je op.
