GETTING AROUND
Taxis from Entebbe International Airport to downtown Kampala charge around UGX 94,000 (€30) for the 40km journey, which can take up to an hour in heavy traffic. The best way to get around the city is by metered taxi (BluCruise, tel. (0)414 574890) or motorcycle taxis called boda bodas (ensure you wear a helmet).
EAT OUT
For a reasonably priced menu of delicious Indian and vegetarian dishes, head for Govinda’s Restaurant (9, Dewinton Road, tel. (0)752 747977) opposite the National Theatre. Fancy some crocodile, impala or ostrich?
The Lawns (Impala Avenue), the newest entrant on the capital’s restaurant scene, will tickle your tastebuds with these and other tasty game dishes in a quiet and romantic setting.
NIGHTLIFE
Iguana (Plot 8, Bukoto Street, Kamwokya) has a jam session every Thursday, with a live band performing reggae, roots and soul. Alternatively, Punchline Bar & Restaurant (Ggaba Road, Kabalagala) has an exciting line-up of local artists.
BEST BEACHES
Head to Speke Resort (spekeresort. com) 12 km from Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria (the second largest freshwater lake in the world). Here you can hire a boat for a leisurely cruise, or picnic by the waterfront. For a more relaxed – not to mention less expensive – option, go to Anderita Beach off Mambi Road in Entebbe for an afternoon of sun and fun while tucking into delicious roasted tilapia and chicken.

PLAGES PARADISIAQUES
Pour contempler la plage, allez à Speke Resort (spekeresort.com) à Munyonyo sur les rives du lac Victoria, le deuxième plus grand lac d’eau douce du monde. Là, vous pourrez louer un bateau de plaisance pour une croisière ou pique-niquer à front de plage. Une option plus décontractée, et moins chère : Anderita Beach, près de la route de Mambi à Entebbe (tél. 772 665 616). Passez-y une après-midi pleine de soleil et d’amusement tout en savourant un délicieux tilapia ou poulet grillés.
