GETTING AROUND
It takes only a few minutes to drive from Kigali International Airport to the city centre. A taxi can charge about RWF 7,500 (€9) to 10,000 (€12). Some of the big hotels arrange airport shuttles, but you must tell them in advance.
EAT OUT
For those who love pizzas, Havana Club (near Laico Umbano Hotel, tel. 510440) is a popular low-key restaurant with an extensive drinks list. Okapi Hotel (Rue de Muhima, tel. 574169) has a wide range of Rwandan specialities and brochettes on the menu, as well as a good selection of international dishes.
NIGHTLIFE
The VIP lounge at B-Club (Nyarutarama) remains the capital’s most glamorous nightspot. Come early and you can snack on barbecued tilapia dishes and brochettes, before taking to the dance floor with Kigali’s well-heeled denizens. For a mélange of salsa, African pop, Congolese soukous and western hits, make your way to the open-air Pasadena (Mu Rugo, Gikondo).
WHERE TO LEARN
No trip to the Rwandan capital would be complete without a sobering visit to the Kigali Memorial Centre (Gisozi, kigalimemorialcentre.org). Built on a site where more than 250,000 people are buried, the centre is a permanent memorial to those who fell victim to the genocide. It contains an insightful exhibition that enables people – and children in particular – to learn about and from the country’s recent history. A more light-hearted cultural learning experience can be had at Kimisagara Youth Center (tel. 788 595946, kimisagarayouthcenter.org), which offers traditional dance and singing classes.
SE DÉPLACER
Le trajet depuis l’aéroport International de Kigali vers le centre-ville ne dure que quelques minutes, mais attendez-vous à payer environ 7 500 RWF (9 €) pour la course. Certains grands hôtels organisent des navettes depuis l’aéroport, prévenez-les toutefois à l’avance.
