GETTING AROUND
There are three transport options from the airport, which is 4km from the city centre. For the more adventurous, there are the local public taxis (candongeiro) for around AOA 50 (€0,50). A metered taxi service (Macon Taxis) costs around AOA 140 (€1,30) per kilometre. Or contact your hotel to arrange for someone to collect you.
EAT OUT
In the middle of the city bustle, A Nossa Sombra (Largo do Kinaxixi, Rua da Missão, tel. 222 372333) is an oasis where you can enjoy a tasty buffet meal amid the greenery and trees of a thriving nursery. Known in Luanda for its delicious Portuguese fish dishes, Trinca-Espinhas (73 Rua
D. Antunio Saldanha, Ingombotastel, tel. 923 448418) is popular, especially on weekends, so booking is a good idea.
NIGHTLIFE
Two popular Luandan clubs are Dom Quixote (63 Rua Major Kanhangulo) and Palos (Rua 10 Frederik Engels). For a quiet evening at the movies, visit Cineplace at Belas Shopping centre (www.belasshopping.com).
WHERE TO LEARN
For more on the history and nature of the country, visit Museo de Esclavatura (The Slave Museum), in a small church on the coast south of the city, and the Natural History Museum (Rua George Dimitrov). The Karl Marx Theatre is a melting pot for local musical and theatrical culture and talent (angoladigital.net/artecultura).
