Folllowing a splendid lightshow in the colours of Brussels Airlines and of Star Alliance at Brussels’ Grand’Place, the two CEOs of the airline hosted a cocktail evening at the Town Hall during which they outlined the important advantages of this membership. Access to a global network of over 1000 destinations in more than 200 countries as well as route opimisation and easy and convenient transfers between member airline services for example. Frequent flyers will also benefit from access to some 800 lounges in airports around the world as well as a common loyalty programme that is valid across the entire 26-airline membership. In fact, it is our passengers who will get the most out of this historic entry into the international commercial alliance.
The event also highlighted the conclusion of a number of new partnerships. After having reinforced the collaborations with Lufthansa, LOT, SWISS, Agean, Blue1 and TAP, Brussels Airlines has announced new upcoming partnerships with other Star Alliance members, Egyptair, Austrian Airlines, and Spanair. Passengers will henceforth have access to new destinations and a wider network and frequency thanks to Brussels Airlines’ membership of Star Alliance, with new partnership agreements to be announced in the coming months.

Belgian jazz takes to the sky with Brussels Airlines partnership
For over 30 years, the pioneering Belgian jazz label Igloo has been providing a platform for new talent in European jazz. The label started in 1978, when jazz aficionados in Brussels decided to pool their resources to set up their own label so they could record and distribute some of the new music that was being produced.
Rather than create a giant corporation, Igloo’s goal was to reflect the music of its time and provide a platform for future talent. “This is [still] the primary role of Igloo” explains company president Daniel Léon.
Over the years the label has had the privilege of releasing albums featuring such feted musicians as Chet Baker, Phillip Catherine and Joe Lovano, as well as first releases from talents including pianists Eric Legnini and Nathalie Loriers and the vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher.
While recent years have proved challenging for small record labels, Igloo has nonetheless continued to pioneer the jazz scene in Belgium and has even provided an outlet for artists from Central to Northern Africa with the addition of
Igloomondo in 2005. In 2008, to coincide with its 30th anniversary, it launched Igloo New Talents, specifically for the new generation that is regenerating Belgian jazz: Pascal Mohy, Eve Beuvens and Greg Houben to name a few.

Brussels Airlines célèbre sont entrée dans Star Alliance!
Les journées du 9 et 10 décembre 2009 resteront gravées dans l’histoire de Brussels Airlines. Seulement sept ans après son lancement, la compagnie aérienne belge a intégré la plus importante alliance commerciale de l’aviation dans le monde : Star Alliance
Sous le thème de « There’s a new Star in the Sky over Brussels », Brussels Airlines a accueilli pendant deux jours à Bruxelles une importante délégation de Star Alliance.
Une vingtaine de CEO des compagnies aériennes membres de l’alliance sont venus du monde entier dans la capitale de l’Europe pour célébrer cet événement. Accompagnés de personnel de cabine en uniforme, ces délégations provenant de Nouvelle Zélande, Chine, Japon, Etats-Unis ou encore Afrique du Sud, étaient la parfaite illustration du réseau global offert par Star Alliance.
Après un majestueux son et lumière au couleurs de Brussels Airlines et de Star Alliance sur la Grand-Place de Bruxelles, les deux co-CEO de Brussels Airlines, Bernard Gustin et Michel Meyfroidt, ont souligné, lors d’un cocktail dans l’Hôtel de Ville, les importants avantages offerts aux passagers suite à cette adhésion. Accès à un réseau global de plus de 1000 destinations réparties dans près de 200 pays dans le monde ou encore optimalisation des réseaux et facilité de transfert et de connexions entre l’ensemble des compagnies membres de l’alliance en sont quelques exemples. Les passagers profiteront également de l’accès à plus de 800 lounges d’aéroports dans le monde et de programmes de fidélisation valable sur l’ensemble des compagnies aériennes de l’alliance. En résumé, le passager est le grand vainqueur de l’entrée historique de Brussels Airlines dans l’alliance commerciale internationale.
Cet événement a également été le témoin de la conclusion de nouveaux partenariats pour Brussels Airlines. Après avoir annoncé ou renforcé précédemment sa collaboration avec Lufthansa, LOT, SWISS, Aegean, Blue1 ou encore TAP, la compagnie aérienne belge a annoncé de nouveaux partenariats à venir avec d’autres compagnies aériennes de Star Alliance : Egyptair, Austrian Airlines et Spanair. Les passagers pourront donc bientôt profiter des nouvelles destinations et fréquences offertes grâce à l’entrée de Brussels Airlines dans Star Alliance. De nouveaux accords sont encore à venir dans les mois qui viennent.

Le jazz belge au septième ciel avec Brussels Airlines
Depuis plus de 30 ans, le label Igloo, un pionnier sur la scène du jazz belge, est devenu la plateforme des nouveaux talents du jazz européen. Le label a démarré en 1978, lorsque les aficionados du jazz à Bruxelles décidèrent d’unir leurs ressources pour lancer leur propre label et donc enregistrer et distribuer des styles spécifiques de musiques produites à l’époque. Loin de créer une société géante, l’objectif d’Igloo était de refléter la musique de son temps et de fournir un tremplin aux futurs talents. “C’est [toujours] le rôle premier d’Igloo” explique le président de la compagnie Daniel Léon.
Au cours des années, le label a eu le privilège de sortir des albums avec des interprètes de choix tels que Chet Baker, Phillip Catherine et Joe Lovano, ainsi que des premières éditions de nouveaux talents dont les pianistes Eric Legnini et Nathalie Loriers et le joueur de vibraphone Pascal Schumacher.
Bien que ces dernières années aient apporté leur lot de défis aux petites maisons d’enregistrement, Igloo a réussi toutefois à maintenir sa position de pionnier sur la scène du jazz en Belgique en s’ouvrant également aux artistes d’Afrique du Nord et Centrale avec l’addition de Igloomondo en 2005. Brussels Airlines viert haar toetreding tot Star Alliance !
Brussels Airlines schreef geschiedenis op 9 en 10 december 2009. 7 jaar na haar oprichting trad de Belgische luchtvaartmaatschappij toe tot ‘s werelds grootste commerciële luchtvaartalliantie, Star Alliance
Onder het motto « There’s a new Star in the Sky over Brussels », verwelkomde Brussels Airlines gedurende twee dagen een belangrijke Star Alliance delegatie. Zo’n 25 CEO’s van luchtvaartmaatschappijen die lid zijn van Star Alliance kwamen van over de heel wereld naar de Europese hoofdstad om getuige te zijn van dit gebeuren. Deze delegaties, komende o.a. uit Nieuw-Zeeland, China, Japan, VS, Zuid-Afrika, en telkens begeleid door een van hun flight atendants in uniform, waren het perfecte uithangbord van het wereldwijde netwerk dat Star Alliance aanbiedt.
Na een indrukwekkend klank- en lichtspel uitgevoerd in de kleuren van Brussels Airlines en Star Alliance op de Brusselse Grote Markt, benadrukten de beide co-CEO’s van Brussels Airlines, Bernard Gustin en Michel Meyfroidt, tijdens een cocktail in het stadhuis de vele voordelen van dit lidmaatschap voor de passagiers. Enkele voorbeelden : passagiers hebben toegang tot een wereldwijd netwerk van meer dan 1000 bestemmingen verspreid over bijna 200 landen, ze kunnen genieten van snelle en eenvoudige transfers en aansluitingen tussen de luchtvaartmaatschappijen die deel uitmaken van de alliantie, ze hebben toegang tot meer dan 800 lounges wereldwijd en ze hebben keuze uit getrouwheidsprogramma’s die geldig zijn voor alle maatschapijen binnen de alliantie. Kortom, de klant wint op alle fronten dankzij deze toetreding van Brussels Airlines tot de internationale alliantie.
Tijdens het evenement heeft Brussels Airlines ook nieuwe akkoorden afgesloten. Naast reeds bestaande samenwerkingsakkoorden met Lufthansa (Duitsland/Afrika) , LOT (Polen ), SWISS (Zwitserland) , Aegean (Griekenland), Blue1 (Finland) en TAP (Portugal), heeft de Belgische luchtvaartmaatschappij nieuwe partnerships aangekondigd met andere Star Alliance partners : Egyptair (Egypte), Austrian Airlines (Oostenrijk) en Spanair (Spanje). De klanten zullen binnenkort dus kunnen genieten van nieuwe bestemmingen en uurregelingen. Nog meer akkoorden zullen de komende maanden afgesloten worden.

Belgische jazz scheert hoge toppen met Brussels Airlines partnership
Al meer dan 30 jaar vormt het baanbrekende Belgische jazzlabel Igloo een platform voor nieuw talent in de Europese jazz. Het label werd in 1978 opgericht, toen jazzfanaten in Brussel besloten de handen in elkaar te slaan om hun eigen label op te richten zodat ze de nieuwe muziek die ontstaan was, konden opnemen en verdelen. Igloo had niet als doel een mastodont te creëren, maar wel de muziek met de tijdsgeest van toen weer te geven en een platform te vormen voor nieuw talent. “Dit is [nog steeds] het hoofddoel van Igloo,” legt general manager Daniel Léon uit.
Door de jaren heen had het label het voorrecht albums uit te brengen met gevierde artiesten zoals Chet Baker, Phillip Catherine en Joe Lovano, maar brachten ze ook de eerste albums uit van nieuwe talenten zoals pianisten Eric Legnini en Nathalie Loriers en vibrafonist Pascal Schumacher.
Hoewel de laatste jaren niet de makkelijkste waren voor kleine platenlabels bleef Igloo toch baanbrekend werk verrichten voor de Belgische jazzscene en creëerde het ook een afzetmarkt voor artiesten uit Centraal tot Noord-Afrika met het toevoegen van de Igloomondo in 2005. In 2008, het jaar van hun 30ste verjaardag, lanceerde Igloo New Talents, specifiek voor de nieuwe generatie die nieuw leven in de Belgische jazz blaast: Pascal Mohy, Eve Beuvens en Greg Houben zijn hier slechts enkele voorbeelden van.
