The Congo in London
London is awash with pop up establishments from shops to galleries and bars to restaurants. But one of the latest ventures that is absolutely worth a mention is The Double Club, 7 Torrens Street, London, EC1. The brainchild of German artist Carsten Holler and top fashion label Prada, this bar-cum-eatery is a brilliant coming together of African (specifically Congolese) and Western art, food, drink and entertainment. Everything is done in parallel from the décor to the music – think Andy Warhol prints alongside works of art by Congolese artist Mosengwo Kejwamfi and local African beers alongside cosmopolitan cocktails. So, for as long as it’s popped up (The Double Club is only open till May) I can get my fill of goat brochette, primus beer and Kinshasa beats without burning up my carbon footprint taking regular flights to the DRC.
