GETTING AROUND
There are three transport options from the airport, which is 4km from the city centre. For the more adventurous, there are the local public taxis (candongeiro) for around AOA 50 (€0.40). A metred taxi service (Macon Taxis) costs around AOA 140 (€1.20) per kilometre. Or contact your hotel to arrange for someone to collect you.

For something with an oriental flavour, visit Abdeson Restaurante (47 Avenida Murtala Mohamed, tel. 923 766 243). First-class Chinese and Japanese cuisine is served for lunch and dinner every day, except Monday lunchtimes.
DRINK UP
For something a little more Angolan, head towards the end of Ilha de Luanda to Chicala, where makeshift bars called barracas line the Atlantic shoreline. Another great spot for sundowners is Miami Beach (Avenida Murtala Mohamed, tel. 923 330 700), which boasts some of the best Angolan musical talent. Located on the beach, this restaurant/bar owned by the president’s daughter is a lively spot.

Angola is slowly restocking its wildlife after decades of civil war. To see what game the country offers, including the famed Angolan palanca negra, drive 70km to Kissama National Park (kissama.org).
